Day four conversation

Conversation
What is your view on protecting natural habitats and looking after wildlife?

I think that mankind should protect natural habitats and look after wildlife as they are important to us too. They are our main source of nature and, also, there are many varieties of animals and plants in the wildlife. However, many people do not know that they are harming mankind themselves, and are bend on doing so. For example, there are many people who slash and burn for the land they need, but do not know that they are destroying nature themselves. This can be very critical and fatal, as nature not only gives us colours, but the harmful gases that is given off during the burning is contributing to the greenhouse effect, and of course harmful to us people. For example, two years ago a big part of Asia is covered in haze and fog due to the burning of forests and natural habitats in places like Indonesia and India, and they are burning the forests for the land which they need to develop cities. I think that to develop more sities, the destruction of nature is unnecessary, as this may cause more harm in the future due to the global warming.
Thanks.

Day two Conversation

What is your view about CCTV or security cameras in public places?

I find that installing CCTVs and security cameras in public places are not wrong, but sometimes they are unnecessary.
Firstly, I must mention that to these CCTVs and security cameras, there are both pros and cons. I will talk about the pros first, and then the cons.
The main reasons of the CCTVs and security cameras is to prevent theft and to maintain security in a certain area. Sometimes, we humans make mistake and do not always notice things, thus the patrolling security guards may not come in handy. With the CCTVs and security cameras now installed, security guards can now have a wider scope of view within a store, and thus can be clear of anyone who's trying to either steal something or commit a crime.
However, CCTVs and security cameras would make people feel more uncomfortable and not trusted, and thus this may affect their shopping experience and affext the shop's business.
In this case, there has been research showing that more than 20% of the shop's business has deproved after installing a CCTV and putting the image captured on the screen in front of the cashier. This shows that the customers will feel untrusted and not be able to shop happily. To this, I have a suggestion. The shop owners can actually move the CCTV screen to inside their own staff room, and monitor the store from inside there. If they see any suspicious looking person or article, they can then approach that person.
Thank you la.

Day ten part two Picture discussion

  • This picture depicts a scene at an old folks home.
  • I can tell that as the majority of the people there are elderly people.
  • Most of them look very bored and listless. This may be because of the boring life at an old folks home.
  • I think that some of them are either abandoned by their family members or their children are met with mishaps and died, thus leaving them here.
  • At the top centre of the picture, we can see a middle aged man currently doing some hand signals, with the elderly people at the old folks home imitating what he is doing.
  • I think that he may be a volunteer to help out at the old folks home and trying to clear off some boredom amongst the elderly.
  • There is also another middle aged woman behind the middle aged man. She is also trying to stir some excitement among the elderly.
  • Behind the middle aged woman are some people who looks like the cooks for the old folks home.
  • From this picture, I can infer to life that at some certain point of life, in this case when we are old, there are bound to be kind people to bring some colours into our lifes, and we should be grateful to these people and not take them for granted.

Thank you! :D

Day eight part two Picture discussion

  • This picture depicts a scene at an open space with children playing with adults.
  • This could be a playground, and the children and adults may most probably be kindergarten pupils and teachers respectively.
  • From the faces of the teacher and pupils, I can tell that they are really enjoying their time together and the game they are playing.
  • This game which is called eagle catching little chickens is a traditional singaporean game that is played among most of the singaporean children.
  • At the centre of the picture, we can see that the teacher is smiling. This shows that the teacher takes part actively in the games just like the children, making the game more interesting. This shows that the teacher shows enthusiasm and not just let the children play alone.
  • At the background of the picture i can see that there is another teacher that is actively taking part in the game as well.
  • From this picture, we can tell the the teacher nowadays are very serious in their jobs, even for the kindergarten teachers, which is good for a society like Singapore.

Thank you. :D

Day six part two Picture discussion

  • This picture depicts a scene at a stadium.
  • I can infer that from the background of the picture, where this place is surrounded by stands.
  • There are also people seated on the stands, looking towards the field, where the four girls in the foreground of the pictures are.
  • This is probably a sports event as there are many people at the stadium, with some of them having number tags behind their shirts.
  • The four girls are clearly seen cheering excitedly and happily, most probably cheering on for their classmates or someone they know.
  • This can be seen from their expressions shown on their faces, all smiling widely.
  • Behind them is a group of boys who are seated down.
  • They are either waiting for their event or are cheering on for their schoolmates, just not as enthusiastically as the four girls.
  • From this picture, we can see how serious human's emotions can get, if they are happy, they can show it in many ways, and in this, they are smiling happily and stamping their feet.

Thank you!

Day four part two Picture Discussion

  • This picture depicts a scene where some helpful people is helping someone handicapped up a bus.
  • These people may be volunteers from a certain social support society to help out the handicapped.
  • From the background of the picture, we can clearly see that the volunteers are people wearing a tag around their necks.
  • The person pushing the handicapped up the bus may be his relative or just one of the volunteers.
  • At the centre of the picture There is a handicapped man that sitting on a wheelchair. He look very well dressed and may be heading for some performance or concert the volunteers are taking them to.
  • On the right, there is a person who is stretching his right hand towards the handicapped man, probably wanting to help him up the bus.
  • That man is most probably the bus driver as he is dressed differently from the rest of the people.
  • From this picture, I can see that this picture tells us how people are in real life, for example the person on the right. We can lend our helping hand to others who are in need and not be selfish.

Thank you! :D
